Bangalore (India), 08/28/2020, Sr. Jacintha Gracy Miranda, Coordinator of Justice and Peace of the Congregation.- The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with the Creator and with all of creation and during the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers of the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.

Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I proclaimed September 1 as a day of prayer for creation for the Orthodox Christians in 1989. Indeed, the year of the Orthodox Church begins on that day with the commemoration of God’s creation of the world. The decision by the World Council of Churches (WCC) was instrumental in making it a special time, extending the celebration from September 1 to October 4. Now, Christians around the world have welcomed this celebration and included it in their annual calendar.

Pope Francis formalized this event in 2015 by warmly welcoming the "Season of Creation" in the Catholic Church.

This period begins on September 1, with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation and ends on October 4, on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology, recognized and admired by many Christian denominations. Throughout the month of celebration, 2.2 billion Christians of the world will come together to take care of our common home.
