Medellin (Colombia), 04/23/2017, Sr. Marta Luz Arango.- On May 17th 1917, the crèche "Salas Cunas Medellin", formerly called "Drop of Milk " opened its doors, in a "big house" near the “placita de Flores”, to working mothers (mostly laundresses at that time ) to receive to their children during the working day.

The mission initiated by the priest Gabriel Lizardi and a group of mothers of St. Ignatius’ College and Presentation Center College, was entrusted to the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation for the administration. The house belongs to the archdiocese of Medellín, is supported by funds from the government and private enterprise. It was the first kindergarten in Medellín. The community has been present for over a hundred years. Today it continues to provide care to 425 children between the ages of 7 months and 5 years in pedagogical topics, psychosocial care and nutrition. It is done with the accompaniment of the families who are involved in the integral development of their children. The children as a whole belong to vulnerable families.

On May 17th will take place in the Metropolitan Basilica of Medellin the Eucharist of thanksgiving to celebrate the centenary of this Mission.
