Chad (Africa), 12/14/2022, Sr. Marcelina Ouedraogo.- The community of Moundou was erected on August 15, 1999, at the request of Monsignor Matthias N'GARTERI, bishop of the diocese. It is located in the Parish of Saint Peter and Paul, under the Diocese of Moundou. Moundou is the economic city of Chad, located 480 km (by road) from N'Djamena, the political capital.
The community's initial mission was parish ministry, including the promotion of women and parish service.
Over time and considering the needs of the moment, the need to expand our missionary service is a real need. Thus, convinced of the great role and the need for quality education in our African countries and particularly in Chad, we dreamed of a project for the education of children and adolescents. This dream has become a reality and we give thanks to the Lord.
THE HISTORY OF THE SAINT DOMINIQUE SCHOOL PROJECT: QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL
In March 2019, while the community of Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin in Moundou in Chad was in search and reflection on how to carry out their project for the education of children, a Dominican sister from the Anunciata went to community within the plan of justice and peace activities carried out by the DSA (sharing of concerns and sorrows in the mission).
"The occasion making the thief", therefore our sisters talk about their project of setting up a school complex, for the benefit of the large number of children in need of schooling and whose few schools were full of children (more than 100 children in a single class in some public schools). On the advice of the visiting Sister, the project was drafted and presented to the ITALIAN EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE, for the construction of a primary school while waiting to reflect with the vice-provincial government on the continuation of the project after this first stage. It was at the request of the CEI (Conference Episcopal Italiana) for a name for the School that we named it “Ecole Saint Dominique” so as not to use “Marie Poussepin” whose name the Center for the Advancement of Women already bears.
Trusting in divine providence, we drafted the project and the CEI gave us a favorable response on July 23, 2020, with a letter approving that the project is granted for the construction of the fence wall of the land, the construction of a large building with 6 classrooms, a technical room made up of three large rooms, namely a library, a computer room and a multipurpose room, for an administrative building, a room for the school canteen, a water tower and a chicken coop.
In our efforts, we benefited from the support and accompaniment of the Bishop of the Diocese, who did not hesitate to give us his letter of recommendation and to give us his advice in carrying out the construction project. Today we are in joy and give thanks to God who allowed the realization of this jewel and even, to be able to open this year, a first pre-CEP class with 50 children. The blessing and the official opening of the Saint Dominique School in the BELABA district were celebrated on October 7th, with a mass presided over by the bishop himself.
We count on your prayers so that this work brings glory to God and be a blessing for the children who will attend this school.
We hope that the CEI will be satisfied with our work and hope that it can continue to help us create a school complex, in order to better meet the educational needs of the community. We are counting on your advice and your spiritual support for the total accomplishment and success of this congregational project in Chad.
May God bless the School and bless all the children who will pass through it now and always.
