Bogota (Colombia), Sr. Ana Francisca Vergara Abril, December 01, 2024.- This Advent, let us walk with the images offered by the psalms of the four Sundays of Advent.

Psalm 25:4-5.8-10.14

Teach me thy ways, O Lord,
instruct me in your ways:
Make me walk in them;
Teach me your ways, for you are my God and my Savior.
The Lord is good and upright,
He teaches the way to sinners;
He leads the meek to walk in righteousness,
He teaches the lowly his way.
The paths of the Lord are mercy and truth
to those who keep his covenant and his commandments.
The Lord entrusts himself to those who fear him,
and makes known to them his covenant.

Journey! This is the key word for this time that we are beginning as a Church. Today we begin a journey that will lead us to one of the summits of our faith: the celebration of the Incarnation of the Son of God. Psalm 25 presents us with the word way or path in almost every verse proposed for the Liturgy of the Word for this first Sunday. It is true that Advent is a time of coming, the manifestation of the coming of someone special for us, but it is also a time of going on the way that leads us to the mystery of the birth of the Lord. He comes and we go; he approaches our human condition and we advance toward the divine reality. It is the way of the humility of God who comes down to live among us and at the same time the way of those of us who seek Him to transform our self-centeredness and pride into humility and service.

This path, consciously walked for four weeks, will help us prepare our hearts and minds to encounter the fragility and vulnerability of God incarnate in a child who reminds us that we are little creatures in the hand of God the Father.

Let us ask ourselves: How do we begin this journey? What do we carry in our saddlebags to nourish us on this journey?

A blessed Advent journey to you and all your loved ones.
