Lima (Peru), 29/06/2017, Srs. of the Province of Los Andes.- On June 28th night Fr. Juan José Salaverry OP, Prior of the Province of Saint John the Baptist in Peru, brought the relics of Saint Rose of Lima to our Provincial house in Lima.

On the feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Saint Rose of Lima, Rose of Saint Mary, the First Woman Saint from America visited us.

On the morning of June 28, Fr. Fabio Herrera Rivera OP during the Eucharistic celebration for the feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, thanked the Lord for the life and witness of Rose of Saint Mary, name that she received when she became a Tertiary in the Order of Saint Dominic.

She is the First Woman Saint from America

Throughout her life Rose tried to imitate Saint Catherine of Siena, her spiritual mistress. After living a life of much asceticism and service for the poor, she died on August 24, 1617 at the age of 31and was canonized by Pope Clement X in 1671, making her the First woman Saint from America. "Probably there has never been in America a missionary who with his preaching gained more conversions than Rose of Lima through her prayer and mortifications”, said Pope Innocent IX on speaking about her. The diocesan seminary, Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo wished to welcome the relics and organized a Holy Hour to venerate her. In the morning we will participate there in the Eucharist.
