Port-au-Prince (Haiti), 06/18/2017, Sr. María Genoveva Rivera.-After the earthquake of 2010 in Haiti, the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation of the province of Medellín planned to build a house for meetings and retreats in Port-au-Prince, in the service of religious, laity and parishes, among others. This dream became reality from July 2016 when the first stage was put into service with 30 fully equipped single rooms.
The silence, the comfort of the facilities, the beauty of nature, the warm welcome, are the characteristic features of this new expression of Charity. Since its inauguration, we have hosted four religious communities, who come to celebrate their annual and / or monthly retreats. We also had the grace to welcome the Dominican friars and the Master of the Order, Bruno Cadoré, for the realization of their meeting with the all the Dominicans present in Haiti. Groups of laity in ecumenical meetings, groups of Puerto Rican doctors in health brigades after Hurricane Mateo that ravaged the south of the country; chorales animating the parishes through the musical Pastoral ... A whole range of groups that have been the object of our charity.
For next September, we will receive the second stage, still under construction, and at that time, we will double our reception capacity, as we will have 60 single rooms, conference room, dining room, oratory and green area. A house very willing to favor rest, prayer, meeting. The Charity service of the Congregation presents a new face in Haiti: the fraternity made welcome. We are sure that this new expression of Charity will reach many people. We entrust to the Divine Providence its future.
